Colombo, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) In its latest offensive against TLET (Tamil Eelam Liberation Tigers) the Sri Lankan Army claimed Friday to have killed eight separatist leaders in Nagarkovil and Muhamalai.
These locations are in the northern region of the country where the rebels have been fighting for 25 years for a separate state for the Tamil minority community.
Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara reported troops ambushed the rebels in Nagarkovil and Muhamalai destroying six bunkers and killing five rebels, among them a TLET chief.
For the first time a Tamil release confirmed deaths, stating five leaders died and 10 members wounded, noted the Daily News.
In addition, TLET reported that in January 49 Tamil civilians died and 18 were missing.
