JVP will take to the streets against 13th Amendment

Jayantha Sri Nissanka

The JVP has threatened to take to the streets against the establishment of the Interim Council and the implementation of the 13th Amendment as proposed by the All Party Representative Committee.
JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake told LAKBIMAnEWS that the Government has no right to hand over the administration in the North and East to the “proxies of terrorists”. Ratnayake was referring to the Tamil National Alliance.
He said that in the wake of continued military defeats, the LTTE has changed their plans and now plots to grab power by other means. He said that the JVP since 1987 opposed the 13th Amendment and its implementation.
He said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was a leading figure in the SLFP who agitated against the signing of the Indo- Lanka pact.
He said the JVP has no option but to scuttle any effort by the President to implement the 13 Amendment.
